Grief: A Reflection Through Nature

Artist Statement

Grief: A Reflection Through Nature is an autobiographical lyrical documentary series that aims to express what grief feels like to me using the essence of the environment and nature. In this series I have used various techniques to convey the emotions associated with my personal grief. The use of desaturated colors is used to represent the somber feeling of Autumn, while the use of brighter and slightly more colorful hues are used to symbolize the renewal and hope of Spring. These images also capture the bi-polar nature of grief using the weathering elements, like fog and rain, to illustrate my pain and healing process.

It has been known that capturing grief through photography can help us express our pain and aid us heal a little from the loss of a loved one. Within this series I have used photography to record the different emotions I have gone through daily to mourn many losses.

My personal experience with grief is also reflected in this series. After the loss of my mom, who suffered a massive stroke and passed away in April 2023, I have used photography as an outlet for my emotions to help me move on.
