Grief: A Reflection Through Nature
Grief: A Reflection Through Nature is an environmental/landscape series that aims to express what grief looks like in the essence of nature. This series will convey the emotions of grief through color, objects, symbols, nature and the weathering elements. It’s been known that capturing grief through photography can help us express our pain and help us heal a little from the loss of a loved one. Within this series a technique called Mindful Photography will be used to capture the different emotions one goes through daily to mourn a loss.
Almost three years ago my mom suffered a massive stroke that changed my life forever. After two and a half years of struggling and trying to fight to survive my mom became tired and slowly becoming less herself and eventually coming to terms and passed away in April of 2023. As her primary caregiver I took on many roles, one taking her place as the rock of my family. As this new role bestowed upon me has made me remain “strong” for everyone else I still get hit with waves of emotions that I can turn off nor feel like I can share these feelings with others that I have chosen photography as an outlet for these feelings. So, I decided to create these photos to help others see a different way to process grief and a way to help with the healing. I feel that this project is a continuation of Living While Dying, where the story will now convey my chapter in the circle of life.
